Competitions
Each year students have an opportunity to compete in both the Nassau County and New York State competitions competing the various areas as indicated below. Students placing first or second at the NYS conference are eligible to compete at the FBLA Nationals. This year, Carey sent four students to the FBLA Nationals which was held in Atlanta in June, 2008.
FBLA members are eligible to compete in written, speaking and computer events.
Written Events
There are many written events to compete in. Written means that it is a scantron test.
Some of these include Accounting, Business Communications, Business Calculations, Business Law, Business Math, Business Procedures, Economics, Introduction to Occupations, Entrepreneurship, Marketing, as well as many others.
Speaking Events
Members can also compete in speaking events. These events are elimination events and the competitor must win at the district level to continue on to the state level.
Some of these include Public Speaking I, Public Speaking II, Impromptu Speaking, Job Interview, Mr. & Ms. FBLA and Outstanding New FBLA Member.
Skilled Events
There are also a number of computer events to compete in such as Desktop Publishing, Computer Applications, Web Design, and Keyboarding.
These events include Word Processing I and II , Computer Applications for Business and Desktop Publishing.
Chapter Events
Chapters as a whole can also enter competitions. These competitions are a collaboration of all the members of the chapter.
Some of these events include Community Service Project, Chapter Display, Chapter Web Site, Largest Chapter, and Chapter of the Year.
