These courses are designed to develop fundamental communicative skills in each target language. Emphasis will be placed on listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in contextual settings. Cultural concepts of the target language studied will be integrated into all communicative activities. Students will complete the proficiencies for Checkpoint A of the NYS Standards. At the end of this course, students will take the NYS Proficiency Examination in their respective language. Prerequisite: Accelerated status as determined by Board Policy
These courses are designed to develop fundamental communicative skills in each target language. Emphasis during the first half of Checkpoint A of the NYS standards will be placed upon speaking and listening skills. Students are taught pronunciation, basic active vocabulary in every day situations, basic reading, and structures in contextual settings. Cultural concepts of the target language studied will be integrated into all communicative activities. A district final examination will be administered at the end of each course. NOTE: Students who enter 9th grade and have not had 8th grade language will be placed into the Language 1A course for high school credit.
